Elegance has been a central theme at the men’s collections this season, as designers navigate a post-streetwear, post-covid world. The quest for sophistication, ease, and effortlessness is evident in the soft tailoring, glitzy embellishments, and pajama silhouettes that have graced the runways.

One brand that embodies elegance as part of its DNA is Bed j.w. Ford. Known for its floaty and romantic tailoring, the brand has been delivering dressed-up flair since its debut in 2016. The latest spring collection continues to explore the concept of “alternative elegance” with designer Shinpei Yamagishi at the helm.

At a recent presentation in Le Marais, Yamagishi was asked to define elegance. He hesitated, admitting, “It’s a very difficult question for me to answer. I’ve been searching for it for a long time. I have a strong desire for it and an image of elegance, but when I’m asked what it means, I run away.”

For this collection, Yamagishi drew inspiration from the nostalgic charm of Normal Rockwell’s paintings. He aimed to capture a sense of happiness and nostalgia, translating it into a collection that featured oversized flocked denim jackets, softly marled tailoring, and a Chanel tweed-inspired knitted black cotton jacket. The signature Bed j.w. Ford glamour shone through with metallic brocade scarves, glittery socks, and vibrant scarlet tailoring.

A new addition to the brand’s repertoire was polka dots, seen on neckties and sheer shirts. Each dot appeared hand-drawn, with rough edges adding a unique touch to the elegant pieces. Yamagishi’s silent eloquence through his designs speaks volumes about his interpretation of elegance.
