MHZ Networks has acquired the brooding Nordic noir crime thriller “The Pushover” for North America in a deal negotiated with international distributor Reinvent Yellow Sales. The series, based on a Lone Theils crime novel and the second adaptation following the success of “Fatal Crossing,” has also secured distribution in Poland (NC+) and Benelux (Lumiere Group).
“The Pushover” follows the story of a woman found dead in her pool in Copenhagen’s upscale Danish Riviera of North Zealand. Her boyfriend, a notorious con man named Tom, claims her death was an accident. Journalist Nora Sand, portrayed by Marie Sandø Jondal, investigates Tom’s past to uncover the truth behind the woman’s death. Meanwhile, seasoned cop Morten Stark believes Tom will eventually incriminate himself. The series, part of this year’s Berlinale Series Market Selects, has already been pre-bought by Denmark’s DR and Sweden’s TV4.
Reinvent Yellow’s CSO of sales, marketing & acquisition, Helene Aurø, praised “The Pushover” for delivering classic Nordic Noir with a dark and realistic atmosphere. The series is known for its authentic storytelling, driven by human flaws, moral ambiguity, and quiet tension rather than flashy twists. The unpredictable conclusion keeps viewers hooked until the very end.
Produced by Shuuto Arctic for Norwegian streamer Altibox, “The Pushover” is a collaborative effort of “Fatal Crossing” scribes Arne Berggren and Kristine Berg, along with director Magnus Berggren. Reinvent Yellow also presents another captivating show at Berlinale Series Market Selects, Canada’s “Convictions,” a psychological thriller that follows the protagonist’s harrowing journey as her partner and child disappear without explanation.
“The show carries a noir-like tension as moral lines blur, personal stakes rise, and every clue deepens the mystery rather than resolving it,” Aurø explained. With compelling narratives and engaging characters, both “The Pushover” and “Convictions” offer viewers an immersive and thrilling viewing experience.
