Bernie Kaminski, a talented sculptor, creates intricate papier-mâché objects right at his kitchen table. His sculptures depict everyday items that you might encounter on the streets of New York City or find in a cozy apartment. From a realistic Lox bagel with red onion and schmear to a row of metal mailboxes and a canvas L.L. Bean tote filled with tennis balls, Kaminski’s work captures the essence of city life.

Each sculpture is meticulously crafted, with attention to detail that brings the objects to life. For example, his medicine cabinet features shelves filled with various over-the-counter treatments and prescriptions, complete with vintage branding that harkens back to a bygone era. Tiny price tags add a touch of authenticity, reflecting a time when shopping for essentials was a simpler affair.

Another captivating piece is the box of matchbooks, each bearing the name of classic New York restaurants like Jerry’s and Odeon. These matchbooks serve as nostalgic reminders of eateries that have been around for decades, as well as those that have long since closed their doors.

Currently, Kaminski is working on a pair of tube socks and preparing for an upcoming exhibition in early 2025. His sculptures can be viewed on his Instagram page, where he shares his latest creations with his followers.

From a detailed sculpture of white briefs to a stack of vintage paperbacks, Kaminski’s work showcases his skill in transforming ordinary objects into extraordinary works of art. Whether it’s a payphone or a set of metal mailboxes, each sculpture tells a story and evokes a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time.
