Senator Bernie Sanders’ resurgence in popularity during the second Trump administration can be attributed to his straightforward approach and unapologetic rhetoric.
Recently, Senator Sanders had a lot to say regarding the legislation currently under debate in the Senate:
Trump’s much-touted ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ is arguably the most perilous piece of legislation to surface in recent American history. It serves as a generous gift to the billionaire elite, while inflicting significant hardship upon working families.
For those who prioritize HEALTH CARE, this bill threatens to strip health insurance from over 16 million individuals and jeopardizes rural hospitals, community health centers, and nursing homes by slashing Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act by more than $1.1 trillion.
For those concerned about the looming threat of CLIMATE CHANGE, this bill dismantles critical investments in energy efficiency and renewable resources, all while showering billions on Big Oil and facilitating easier access to oil drilling on public lands.
If CHILDREN are your priority, this legislation eradicates nutrition assistance for millions of hungry children during a time when childhood poverty rates are alarmingly high compared to other major nations.
For advocates of EDUCATION, this bill imposes a $350 billion reduction in educational funding, making it increasingly difficult for working-class children to pursue higher education and achieve success in the workforce.
If you’re weary of NEVER-ENDING WARS and the endless flow of taxpayer dollars to defense contractors, you’ll find it troubling that this bill allocates an additional $150 billion to the Pentagon—an increase of 15% in military spending.
And for those keeping an eye on the national fiscal health, the bill notably increases federal budget deficits by nearly $4 trillion amidst a staggering $37 trillion NATIONAL DEBT.
In the face of unprecedented wealth and income inequality, the legislation also grants a $975 billion tax break to the top 1%, along with over $900 billion to large corporations that lay off workers and hoard profits in offshore tax havens, such as the Cayman Islands.
This bill is fundamentally flawed.
Any member of Congress who supports it must face defeat in the upcoming election.
It appears that many Republicans backing this legislation are more concerned with the ramifications of opposing Trump than with the bill’s consequences for their constituents.
Bernie Sanders is correct in asserting that those who support this bill out of fear must realize that indulging Trump will come at a steep price. Republicans in swing states and districts who prioritize Trump over the welfare of their constituents should be prepared to face the electoral consequences.
Any legislator voting in favor of this bill should brace themselves for the possibility of losing their position next November.
