A significant update on MJF’s future has been revealed, but it comes with an unexpected twist.
MJF, a prominent homegrown talent in AEW, secured his second World Title with the promotion at Worlds End 2025. Since then, he has successfully defended his title against some of the top competitors within the organization. Additionally, Maxwell has taken his title defenses beyond Tony Khan’s company, making appearances outside of AEW as well.
Recently, during a WrestlePro event, as Pat Buck was concluding the main event, the music of the AEW World Champion played, signaling MJF’s entrance to the ring. Initially, he expressed gratitude to Pat Buck for providing opportunities to him and other wrestlers. However, he then delivered a surprise low blow to Buck. As Maxwell exited, Buck issued a challenge for a match on May 31, which was subsequently confirmed.
MJF compares himself to Timothee Chalamet
MJF is undoubtedly a major star in professional wrestling, captivating fans with his behavior both inside and outside the ring. Known for his candidness, he never hesitates to share his thoughts, especially about himself.
During an appearance on the Games with Names podcast, Maxwell revealed that he draws inspiration from Timothee Chalamet, praising the actor’s dedication to his craft.
“Timothee Chalamet specifically. What he’s been able to accomplish at such a young age, you want to talk about being a student of the game. This guy lives, and breathes, and dies acting, clearly. He takes his craft incredibly seriously, and he’s so young. All the top guys are in their 40s and 50s.”
The AEW World Champion went on to liken himself to Chalamet, asserting that he is the youngest top performer in his industry.
“It’s the same thing in my sport, a lot of the guys are in their 40s and 50s. I’m 29, about to be 30, I’m by a wide margin, to be honest, the youngest top guy in my industry right now. And that doesn’t happen unless you really dedicate your life to something. So I respect Timothee Chalamet in that sense.”
Maxwell is scheduled to defend his World Title against Kenny Omega at Dynasty 2026.
