Bill Hader, known for his work on “Barry” and “Saturday Night Live,” is delving into a dark chapter of history with a new HBO series centered on Jim Jones and the Jonestown massacre. According to Variety, Hader and Daniel Zelman are developing the project, with Hader potentially starring in the show as well.
Jim Jones founded the Peoples Temple in the 1950s, eventually leading to the tragic events at Jonestown in 1978, where over 900 members died in a mass murder-suicide. The story of Jones and Jonestown has been the subject of numerous books, documentaries, and even a miniseries starring Powers Boothe.
Hader’s previous success with “Barry” on HBO, which earned him multiple Emmy wins, makes him a strong candidate to bring this harrowing story to life. Zelman, known for his work on “Damages” and “Bloodline,” brings a wealth of experience to the project as well.
While Jones and Jonestown have been explored in various forms of media, this new series promises to offer a fresh perspective on the tragic events. With Hader’s talent both in front of and behind the camera, and Zelman’s track record of creating compelling dramas, this HBO series is sure to captivate audiences.
