Bill Murray recently opened up about his emotional experience during the “SNL50” anniversary special last month. The legendary comedian revealed that he found himself getting unexpectedly teary-eyed multiple times throughout the show.

In an interview on SiriusXM’s “Sway in the Morning,” Murray shared that he couldn’t help but shed a few tears when he wasn’t on screen. “It was surprisingly emotional,” he admitted. “I wept three times in the show. It really got to me.”

One particular moment that struck a chord with Murray was watching a clip of late cast member Gilda Radner dancing with Steve Martin. He recalled the days spent rehearsing that dance number and his deep admiration for Radner, saying, “I love Gilda, I was crazy about Gilda. And I sort of came apart. I was sitting there in a dressing room with a bunch of people, and I couldn’t stop it.”

Murray also reflected on another late “SNL” alum, John Belushi, and the impact he had on the show and its cast members. “John was a guy who really made a lot of careers possible. He dragged all of us out from Chicago,” Murray shared, visibly moved by the memory.

Having been a part of “Saturday Night Live” from 1977 to 1980, Murray made several appearances during the anniversary special, reprising his iconic character Nick the Lounge Singer and appearing on a special edition of “Weekend Update.” He is currently promoting his new film “Riff Raff,” in which he stars alongside Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Pete Davidson, and more.

Fans can catch Murray’s full interview on “Sway in the Morning” for more insights into his emotional journey during the “SNL50” celebration.
