Blackpink member Jisoo and award-winning actor Park Jeong-min are teaming up for an exciting new Korean zombie apocalypse series called “Newtopia,” set to premiere on Prime Video on February 7. The series will also be available on Korean streamer Coupang Play on the same date.

“Newtopia” follows the journey of a couple, Lee Jae-yoon (played by Park) and Kang Young-joo (played by Jisoo), as they try to reunite during a zombie outbreak in Seoul. Lee Jae-yoon, a man completing his mandatory military service, faces anxiety about his future while Young-joo navigates early career challenges. Their relationship faces challenges as they have a sudden break-up after an argument, but they are forced to come together again as the zombie outbreak spreads across the city.

The screenplay for “Newtopia” is co-written by Han Jin-won, known for his work on “Parasite,” and Jee Ho-jin, the writer of “A Shop for Killers.” Director Yoon Sung-hyun, who has previously collaborated with Park on “Bleak Night” and “Time to Hunt,” helms the project.

This series marks Jisoo’s second major acting role, following her lead performance in “Snowdrop.” The K-pop idol-turned-actress has previously appeared in “The Producer” and “Arthdal Chronicles.” Park Jeong-min brings significant critical acclaim to the project, having won best new actor honors at prestigious awards for his past performances.

“Newtopia” will release weekly episodes from February 7 through March 21 and will be available for streaming in over 240 territories on Prime Video. The series promises to blend action, romance, and comedy within its zombie apocalypse framework.

Fans can expect a dynamic story that explores the challenges faced by the couple amidst a world thrown into chaos by zombie attacks. The first look stills hint at both happy moments between the couple and the intense survival situations they find themselves in.
