On Monday morning in Boulder, a young girl narrowly escaped a potential kidnapping when an unidentified man began following her on her bicycle and grabbed her shoulder, as reported by a statement from the Boulder Police Department on X.com.
The 11-year-old recounted that she was on her way to school on 26th Street between Meadow and Norwood avenues at around 8:30 a.m. when the man started trailing her and physically grabbed her. In a moment of quick thinking, the girl picked up a tree branch from the ground and struck the assailant, causing him to release her and allowing her to flee to safety at school.
It wasn’t until Wednesday when the child confided in her mother about the frightening encounter, prompting her mother to contact the authorities.
The suspect is described as a man dressed in all black, wearing a mask and circular sunglasses with colored lenses. It is noted that he may have been speaking Spanish.
This incident marks the second attempted kidnapping in the Front Range region within the past week, following a separate incident where a man attempted to abduct a girl at gunpoint outside Mountain Range High School on October 25.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to either of these cases. Individuals with any relevant information regarding the Boulder incident are urged to reach out to Detective Taylor Hickam at HickamT@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-1936, referencing case number 24-11453.
