Two daring criminals committed a robbery at gunpoint in Chelsea, targeting an off-duty NYPD cadet and his girlfriend in the early hours of Monday morning. The incident took place at around 3:45 a.m. on West 25th Street near Seventh Avenue. The 20-year-old cadet, who was participating in the NYPD’s internship program for college students, was sitting in his car with his 22-year-old girlfriend when two armed men approached them.
Demanding their belongings, one of the suspects threatened the couple, prompting the woman to hand over the cadet’s wallet containing cash, credit cards, and his NYPD-issued ID. Unsatisfied with the initial loot, one of the robbers struck the cadet in the face with his gun, insisting that they had more valuables to surrender.
In fear for their safety, the cadet retrieved additional cash from the center console and gave it to the assailants. The criminals then fled the scene in a black BMW with a New York license plate, captured by a license plate reader as it entered Queens through the Queens Midtown Tunnel.
The suspects were described as one wearing all black and the other sporting a white camouflage hoodie with black jeans. The brazen robbery highlights the dangers faced by individuals, even those associated with law enforcement, in urban areas. Police are actively investigating the incident in hopes of apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring justice is served.
