An FBI agent has been terminated from their position, allegedly for refusing to orchestrate a much-publicized arrest of former FBI Director James Comey, as reported by Reuters.
According to sources briefed on the situation, “An FBI agent was relieved of duty for declining to arrange a ‘perp walk’ of the bureau’s former director, James Comey, in front of news media cameras after Comey was federally charged last month.”
The arraignment for Comey is set for October 9, with his case being overseen by U.S. District Judge Michael Nachmanoff, an appointee of President Biden.
MSNBC corroborated the report that the FBI agent was dismissed for their refusal to proceed with the publicized arrest of Comey following his indictment.

CBS News also reported that the FBI is contemplating a “showy” arrest of Comey, leading to the suspension of the agent who voiced dissent against participating in such a spectacle.
Last week, Comey was indicted on two counts, namely false statements and obstruction of justice, by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia.

The Justice Department emphasized, “The balance of power is a bedrock principle of our democracy, and it relies upon accountability and a forthright presentation of facts from executive leadership to congressional oversight. Any intent to avoid, evade, prevent, or obstruct compliance is a violation of professional responsibility and, most importantly, the law.”
If convicted, Comey could face up to five years in prison, though actual sentences for federal crimes often fall below the maximum. A federal district court judge will decide the sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and additional statutory factors.
In a statement shared via Instagram, Comey remarked, “My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump. But we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way.”
He added, “We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either.” Expressing his faith in the legal system, Comey concluded, “My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system and I’m innocent. So let’s have a trial.”
