A troubling incident involving at least one boat has led to numerous injuries and the urgent dispatch of emergency rescue helicopters in the vicinity of the Memorial Causeway bridge and Clearwater Beach in Clearwater, Florida.

Footage from the scene reveals a large-scale police and emergency medical response:

According to WFLA:

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The City of Clearwater reports multiple injuries following a boat crash near the Memorial Causeway bridge. Emergency responders from Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene after a distress call was made at 8:43 p.m.

Authorities are currently investigating the situation, and any new developments will be reflected in this article.

Conflicting accounts circulating on social media suggest that officials have classified the incident as a “mass casualty event” involving a ferry that collided with a sandbar.

One observer noted that approximately four helicopters are airlifting individuals from the area, with around 40 patients requiring medical assistance.
