The NYPD is currently investigating a tragic double shooting that occurred on Monday night in Brooklyn. The incident resulted in the death of one man and left another with a gunshot wound to the eye. Police received multiple 911 calls just after 10 p.m. reporting shots fired in the area. Upon arrival at 1233 Putnam Ave in Bushwick, officers found the two victims outside.
The victims were identified as a 39-year-old man who was shot in the abdomen and a 63-year-old man who sustained a gunshot wound to the eye. Both victims were immediately transported to Brookdale Hospital, where unfortunately, the younger victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:47 p.m. The older victim is currently in stable condition.
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed as the police are in the process of notifying their families. Ballistics were recovered at the scene, but it is still unclear whether the victims were specifically targeted or if they were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
As of now, no witnesses have come forward, and the investigation is ongoing. This tragic incident marks the eighth and ninth shooting victims and the seventh shooting incident in the 83rd Precinct this year, according to NYPD data. This number is a significant increase from the same period last year, where there were only two shooting victims and two shooting incidents in the precinct by June 1st.
The rise in gun violence in the area is concerning, and authorities are working diligently to address the issue and ensure the safety of the community. The investigation into this double shooting continues, and anyone with information is urged to come forward and assist the authorities in their efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
