Business owners in Chicago are being warned about a recent series of overnight burglaries that have occurred in various neighborhoods across the city. The burglaries, which have taken place from the South Loop to West Ridge, involve groups of two to four men who have been breaking into stores and stealing cash from safes and registers.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the same group is believed to be responsible for at least seven break-ins that occurred on November 5 and November 7. In each instance, the suspects used a crowbar or expandable pry tool to smash the front glass door of the businesses before entering and stealing money.
The reported incidents took place at the following locations and times:
– 3300 block of North Broadway at 3:20 a.m. on November 5
– 7100 block of North Ridge Boulevard at 3:32 a.m. on November 5
– 600 block of West Washington Boulevard at 4:30 a.m. on November 5
– 400 block of South Wells Street at 5:00 a.m. on November 5
– 1900 block of South State Street at 4:58 a.m. on November 7
– 2000 block of South Clark Street at 5:04 a.m. on November 7
– 500 block of West Harrison Street at 5:40 a.m. on November 7
Authorities described the suspects as two to four Black men, aged between 20 and 30, wearing dark hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants, and ski masks. Business owners are being urged to keep their properties well-lit, repair any broken doors or windows promptly, and preserve surveillance footage that may aid in the investigation.
