Indian streetwear brands are making waves on the global fashion scene, challenging traditional Western giants with their unique designs and cultural influences. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, these brands are carving out a niche for themselves in a market dominated by legacy players like Supreme, StĂĽssy, Off-White, and Kith.

One such brand is Rkive City, founded by Khanna, which is set to launch outposts across India and beyond in 2026. The brand’s mission is to deconstruct and reconstruct discarded garments, creating a new narrative around fashion and sustainability. Stocked by prestigious retailers like Galeries Lafayette, Rkive City is positioning itself as a truly global brand with roots in India.

Another rising star in the Indian streetwear scene is Six5Six, founded by Avni Aneja and her brother Ambar Aneja in 2018. The brand has been gaining international recognition, with a growing number of orders from overseas markets. Collaborating with sports leagues and celebrity stylists abroad, Six5Six is making a name for itself on the global stage.

However, navigating the volatile international market comes with its own set of challenges. Export regulations and high tariffs, especially for countries like India, can hinder the growth of these brands. To overcome these obstacles, brands like Huemn are shifting their focus to direct-to-consumer (DTC) strategies. By bypassing tariff inflation and market volatility, they can maintain control over their brand and reach a wider audience.

Pranav Kirti Misra, the co-founder of Huemn, is also focused on creating “cultural moments” within India that resonate with audiences worldwide. By collaborating with iconic figures like women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the brand is able to showcase the rich cultural tapestry of India on a global platform.

As Indian streetwear brands continue to make their mark on the international fashion scene, it’s clear that they are not just Indian brands going global, but inherently global brands with a unique perspective and a commitment to sustainability and innovation. With a focus on creativity, collaboration, and cultural relevance, these brands are redefining what it means to be a player in the global fashion industry.
