The accident occurred in icy conditions on Dunedin’s Northern Motorway. File photo: Stephen Jaquiery
A motorist lost control of his vehicle causing it to overturn on a frosty Dunedin highway yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond from Dunedin reported that the 45-year-old driver skidded off while heading north on the city’s northern motorway (State Highway 1) near Pigeon Flat at approximately 6:14 am.
Snr Sgt Bond mentioned that the car veered into the left-hand ditch, with its doors getting stuck in the bank resulting in the vehicle flipping over.
There were visible signs of ice on the road, indicating slippery conditions, he added.
Although a blood sample was taken by the authorities, they do not suspect alcohol played a role in the accident.
The injured individual was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. Unfortunately, Hato Hone St John could not provide any further details.
