Cardi B is known for her extravagant outfits at the Met Gala, and this year was no exception. The theme was Tailored for You, and Cardi decided to put her own spin on modern-day dandyism with a stunning Burberry suit designed by Daniel Lee. The outfit was a perfect nod to the new exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Lee described Cardi’s look as a tailored, feminine dandy that exuded main-character energy. The intricate green floor-length embroidered coat with an open back was the highlight of the ensemble. Paired with a silk devoré shirt featuring a ruffled collar and cuffs, as well as a silk-satin cummerbund and green velvet jacquard tailored trousers, Cardi truly owned the red carpet.
The inspiration behind the outfit came from Victorian dress and corsetry, with a particular image of an emerald green gown from the 19th century serving as a key reference. The circular cutout in the back of the gown was considered controversial at the time, and Cardi’s modern interpretation of this nonconformity embodied the spirit of dandyism.
Overall, Cardi B’s Met Gala look was a perfect blend of historical inspiration and modern flair. The attention to detail and the intricate design elements showcased Cardi’s unique sense of style and made her stand out among the crowd at the prestigious event. Photo: Getty Images.
