A dramatic police chase unfolded on live TV in Los Angeles over the weekend, as a pair of armed suspects led authorities on a wild pursuit that included carjacking multiple vehicles, including a big-rig tanker. The suspects, who reportedly fired gunshots at California Highway Patrol officers early on in the chase, created chaos on the highways as they fled on the wrong side of the road.
The dangerous ordeal began in the San Fernando Valley when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies spotted a dark pickup truck that had been stolen at gunpoint. The suspects attempted to hijack other vehicles before ultimately cornering a white big rig on the 5 Freeway near Sylmar. They forced the tanker’s driver to flee before commandeering the massive vehicle and heading towards downtown Los Angeles.
As the pursuit continued, commercial truck drivers watching the events unfold on TV reported that the stolen truck did not appear to be carrying any hazardous materials, potentially being a milk truck. The suspects circled through downtown LA, driving erratically on pedestrian-heavy streets near high-rise buildings, creating a dangerous situation for onlookers.
The suspects eventually abandoned the big rig downtown and carjacked a white pickup truck, prompting the LAPD to issue a warning to the public about the armed and dangerous individuals. The chase escalated as the suspects drove at high speeds on the wrong side of Interstate 10, switched vehicles in Boyle Heights, and ultimately carjacked a black sedan in Lincoln Heights before evading police.
Despite the extensive efforts of the LAPD, CHP, and LASD, no arrests have been made as of Monday morning. The authorities have not provided any further details on the ongoing investigation. The daring escape of the armed suspects left viewers on edge and highlighted the dangers of high-speed pursuits on busy California highways.
