A tragic incident unfolded in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood as a brazen daylight shooting took place, resulting in the death of a woman and the injury of a man. Three gunmen dressed in black clothing emerged from a red car in the 7900 block of South May Street, where they opened fire on the victims’ vehicle. Video footage captured by a passing motorist, shared online by Chicago Critter, shows the gunmen relentlessly firing rounds at the victims’ car, which had crashed into a van.
The gunmen returned to their getaway car after the initial attack, but the driver stopped near the crashed vehicle to allow the assailants to fire more shots at the victims. The Chicago Police Department reported that a 26-year-old woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away. A 27-year-old man also suffered gunshot wounds to his buttocks and arm, but he was in stable condition after being taken to Christ Hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, the driver of the GMC van that was struck during the crash declined medical attention at the scene. This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of the senseless violence that plagues our communities.
