The latest documentary from CBS News takes a critical look at America’s so-called oligarchs, aiming to paint billionaires in a rather unflattering light. Interestingly, this exposé manages to sidestep mentioning prominent figures like George Soros and his son Alex, who are well-known for their financial support of Democratic causes.
On a rather amusing note, one might wonder if the timing of this documentary is purely coincidental, especially considering Bernie Sanders and AOC’s ongoing campaign against oligarchy. But hey, who could suspect a connection?
One would assume that Soros, a man who has poured billions into left-leaning political efforts, would at least warrant a mention in a documentary about oligarchs.

WHO’S MISSING? CBS Documentary Decrying Oligarchs Omits Notorious Lefty Billionaires
The CBS documentary critiques America’s drift towards a “Gilded Age” of oligarchs, targeting President Trump and the tech moguls who aligned with him during his inauguration. It seems CBS might as well change its name to Channeling Bernie Sanders. However, the documentary conveniently overlooks any discussion of the most influential left-wing billionaires in U.S. politics, who have leveraged their wealth to influence elections and shape public policy over the years. The narrative dismisses the overwhelming political clout wielded by these billionaire titans throughout their careers.
Among those conveniently absent from the narrative is George Soros, who has funneled an astonishing $32 billion into his Open Society Foundations to promote various causes, from racial justice to climate change activism, and even to support open borders, all while undermining U.S. sovereignty on the international stage. In addition, Soros has invested hundreds of millions in electing progressive candidates and soft-on-crime prosecutors to align the political landscape with his unconventional, anti-establishment worldview. Now, with Alex Soros at the helm of his father’s empire, the influence continues to flourish, as he actively engages with the world’s political elite, including figures like President Biden.
Other notable billionaires who somehow escaped scrutiny in the documentary include Michael Bloomberg, who attempted to purchase the 2020 election for over $1 billion, pledged another billion to dismantle the U.S. coal industry, and spent $47 million in the 2024 election cycle to support Vice President Kamala Harris and help Democrats retain control of the House. Also missing from the conversation is Reid Hoffman, the LinkedIn co-founder, who personally financed the controversial sexual abuse lawsuit against Trump launched by E. Jean Carroll, while investing millions to see Harris elected.
What this suggests is that CBS News is not genuinely concerned about the influence of oligarchs or billionaires in politics. Instead, their fixation lies with those who don’t adhere to a specific ideological narrative. This little exercise in partisanship betrays a profound disconnect from the audience, which is why trust in the media continues to erode among millions of Americans.
