Wendy McMahon Resigns as CBS News President Amid Lawsuit Turmoil

In a stunning development, Wendy McMahon, the president of CBS News, stepped down from her role on Monday, coinciding with President Trump’s escalating legal battle against Paramount, CBS’s parent company. Trump’s lawsuit, initially filed for $10 billion, has now doubled to a staggering $20 billion, alleging that CBS’s ’60 Minutes’ program misleadingly edited an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

In her resignation memo to staff, McMahon stated, “It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on a path forward,” a sentiment echoing the discontent brewing between her and the corporate overlords at Paramount, particularly following the recent resignation of a top producer from the “60 Minutes” team.

The New York Times noted:

CBS News was rocked on Monday as Wendy McMahon announced her abrupt departure, marking yet another chapter in the ongoing clash between the network and President Trump.

McMahon, who served as president of CBS News and Stations, described the past months as “challenging” in her memo, hinting at the growing tensions with Paramount.

Paramount is currently negotiating a resolution for Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit, which claims that “60 Minutes” manipulated an interview with Harris, his Democratic rival.

Despite many legal experts deeming the lawsuit frivolous, Paramount’s controlling shareholder, Shari Redstone, has expressed a preference for settling the matter. She is also pursuing approval from the Trump administration for a lucrative multibillion-dollar merger with Skydance Media.

Concerns are mounting among CBS executives that ongoing litigation with Trump could jeopardize their merger with Skydance.

The Wall Street Journal reports, “Paramount, which owns CBS along with its studio and several cable channels, faces a crucial business decision involving its planned merger with Skydance Media. Executives from both companies have realized that Trump’s dissatisfaction with CBS News may complicate the regulatory review process, potentially necessitating concessions to secure approval.”

In October, Trump initiated a lawsuit against CBS News, originally seeking $10 billion, now escalated to $20 billion, accusing the network of editing his interview with Harris to distort the truth.

The lawsuit asserts, “President Trump brings this action to redress the immense harm caused to him, to his campaign, and to tens of millions of citizens in Texas and across America by CBS’s deceptive broadcasting conduct,” as reported by Fox News.

In a particularly ironic twist, the lawsuit critiques CBS for allegedly editing Harris’s responses to present her in a more coherent light. The editing reportedly involved splicing together unrelated sentences, a practice that raises questions about journalistic integrity.

Here’s a glimpse of the original exchange from the ’60 Minutes’ segment:

Bill Whitaker: But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening?

Kamala Harris: Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.

And here’s how CBS altered the segment:

Bill Whitaker: But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening?

Kamala Harris: We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.

Holy. Shit.

60 Minutes cut Kamala’s nonsense answer on Israel and replaced it with a completely separate sentence she said earlier in the interview…
