Blue Origin’s Historic Space Flight Breaks Guinness World Records
Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, made history in July 2021 with its first human flight. The crew included Jeff Bezos himself, his half-sibling Mark Bezos, aviator Wally Funk, and 18-year-old Oliver Daemen.
Upon their return to Earth, Jeff Bezos expressed his excitement, calling it the “best day ever.”
The groundbreaking flight earned the crew four Guinness World Records. The Bezos brothers became the first siblings to travel to space together, while Wally Funk, at 82 years and 169 days old, became the oldest person to venture beyond the Kármán line. Oliver Daemen, at 18 years and 334 days old, became the youngest person to reach space.
Not only did this mission mark a significant milestone for Blue Origin, but it also set a record as the first suborbital spacecraft to carry paying customers.
During a post-launch press conference, Jeff Bezos shared his awe at the fragility of Earth’s atmosphere, noting how seeing it firsthand was a profound experience. He remarked on the thinness of the atmosphere, emphasizing the importance of preserving our planet.
This historic flight not only pushed the boundaries of space exploration but also showcased the advancements in commercial space travel. Blue Origin’s success in setting new Guinness World Records solidifies its place in the space industry as a pioneering force.
