The Center Police Department is currently facing a scandal as the police chief, Aaron Fresquez, and his twin brother, Sgt. Adam Fresquez, have been charged with theft and placed on administrative leave. The brothers are accused of running a private K-9 training business while on duty at the department in the San Luis Valley, using city resources for personal gain.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation revealed that the 35-year-old brothers trained dogs for other police agencies and kept the profits that should have rightfully belonged to the town of Center. Aaron Fresquez is also facing a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct.
Following a year-long investigation by the CBI at the request of the 12th Judicial District Attorney, the brothers have been summoned to appear in court at a later date. To avoid any conflict of interest, the district attorney has enlisted the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office to serve as special prosecutors in the case.
In light of these developments, Lt. Eidy Guaderama has been appointed as the interim police chief of the city. Stay updated on crime news by signing up to receive daily updates in your inbox.
