DHS Chief Accuses NJ Lawmakers of Felony Assault

In a dramatic turn of events, Kristi Noem, the Chief of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stated on Tuesday that several New Jersey Democratic lawmakers engaged in violent behavior towards federal agents during an altercation at the Newark ICE facility last Friday, potentially facing felony charges.

Noem expressed her outrage in an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, asserting, “We had members of Congress assaulting law enforcement officers. They were cooperating with criminals to create criminal acts and then they are saying that they were providing oversight. This wasn’t oversight; this was committing felonies.”

Bodycam Footage Highlights the Incident

Bodycam footage from ICE agents revealed a shocking confrontation involving Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver, who was seen verbally and physically assaulting federal agents at the Delaney Hall detention facility. Eyewitness accounts and visual evidence suggest that McIver, clad in a red jacket, instigated the conflict.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security reported that McIver allegedly bodyslammed a female ICE agent during this altercation. In a moment captured on video, she was heard shouting, “I touch whoever I want, motherf*cker!”

Federal Investigation Launched

In response to the violent incident, Alina Habba, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, announced on Saturday that her office would launch a federal investigation into the altercation. “My office is undertaking a thorough investigation in coordination with our Federal Agency partners of what transpired on Friday at Delaney Hall. As is true of every investigation this office handles, all available evidence will be thoroughly reviewed prior to making a determination on how to proceed. I do not take these matters lightly,” Habba stated on Monday.

Threats of Retaliation from Democratic Leadership

Noem’s statements garnered attention amidst escalating tensions, particularly after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued threats against DHS agents regarding potential arrests of Democratic lawmakers involved in the incident. Jeffries ominously warned, “They’ll find out. They’ll find out. They’ll find out. It’s a red line. They know better than to go down that road. There are clear lines that they dare not cross.”
