Charlie Kirk Assassination Latest: Suspect Tyler Robinson Returned to Crime Scene to Retrieve Rifle After Conservative Activist’s Killing… and 'Made Contact' with Police Hours Before Arrest

The alleged shooter of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, reportedly made contact with law enforcement just hours after the shooting took place, as he attempted to retrieve his firearm used in the incident.

Days before the tragic event, Robinson had messaged his transitioning roommate, indicating his intent to go back for the rifle he used during the shooting.

Robinson, 22, has been charged with aggravated murder and is currently awaiting trial while being held without bail. The shooter was apprehended after his father reported him to authorities the day after the shooting that claimed Kirk’s life at 31.

Reports suggest law enforcement had a close encounter with Robinson much earlier during their search. They confirmed he engaged briefly with an officer stationed near the woods adjacent to the campus.

“He did return to that campus and made contact with an officer,” stated Beau Mason, commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety. “Details of that interaction remain confidential as we continue our investigation.”

Mason confirmed that the law enforcement officer was stationed in the area as the campus was locked down on September 10, the day of the attack on Kirk, who was in the midst of a public debate at a student rally.

Text messages from Robinson to his roommate suggested a premeditated plan. He intimated a desire to return for his rifle, and a confession note hidden within a keyboard was discovered, indicating a calculated approach: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.”

The roommate’s inquiry about the note led to further chilling responses, as Robinson acknowledged he intended to keep these actions a secret for life, expressing remorse for entangling the roommate in his affairs.

During the early stages of the investigation, police discovered shell casings linked to Robinson that bore political slogans, raising questions about his motives. His mother indicated that he had become increasingly vocal about political issues, particularly around LGBTQ+ and transgender rights in recent months.

Additional texts from Robinson suggested preparation, including the engraving of messages on bullets prior to the murder. In a concerning message, he mentioned a potential reaction to media reports addressing his actions: “If I see ‘notices bulges’ on Fox News, I might have a stroke.”

Law enforcement has suggested that Robinson’s motive for the assassination may be connected to his views on LGBTQ+ rights.

Robinson allegedly expressed that he could not tolerate the perceived hatred that he associated with Charlie Kirk, referring to Kirk’s prominence as a conservative commentator.

In communications with his roommate, Robinson indicated he resolved to act when the moment arose: “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out. I will leave no evidence behind.”
