In an unexpected twist to a Facebook Marketplace transaction, 18-year-old Isaiah Williams is alleged to have targeted a particularly unlucky buyer: an off-duty sergeant from the Chicago Police Department.

Williams was apprehended on September 26 after what began as a simple phone sale in the West Town neighborhood escalated into a chase and struggle. He now faces charges of robbery.

The report from the Chicago Police Department indicates that the 44-year-old sergeant, stationed in the Near North District, had posted his iPhone 15 for sale on Facebook Marketplace and arranged to meet Williams in a parking lot located at Grand and Western avenues, accompanied by his wife.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were frustrated with the unreliable information shared at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.

Since then, our coverage has grown to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other areas on the North Side. However, our mission remains the same: to deliver insightful public safety reporting that offers greater context and detail than what is typically presented by mainstream media.
