Tavon Baylock Found Guilty of Attempted Murder Charges in Iowa

Tavon Baylock, the Chicago man who cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet and fled to Iowa, has been convicted of two counts of attempted murder by a Dubuque County jury. According to a report by Radio Dubuque, the 25-year-old Baylock will face sentencing at a later date.

Prosecutors revealed that Baylock shot at two men outside a daycare center in Dubuque in June 2022 while evading authorities from Chicago.

Baylock gained notoriety in 2019 when a Facebook Live video showed him playing with guns in a car and threatening to shoot a Chicago police officer. This incident led to a four-year sentence for Baylock.

Following his previous case, Baylock was put on electronic monitoring for new charges of unlawful weapon possession and obstruction of justice. On March 9, 2022, Baylock cut off his ankle monitor and absconded.

When officers visited his residence after the monitor alert, Baylock’s brother surrendered the severed ankle strap, stating Baylock wanted it returned to the authorities.

In June 2022, Baylock engaged in a confrontation at a convenience store in Iowa before changing clothes at a nearby house. Later, he shot at a man in a car, causing a collision with a childcare center. Iowa authorities issued warrants for his arrest on multiple charges, including attempted murder and firearm offenses.

Law enforcement tracked Baylock to a woman’s residence in Calumet City, where he was apprehended after a pursuit that involved striking a police car. A loaded handgun was discovered in Baylock’s vehicle during his arrest.
