Chicago experienced a tragic Monday as at least five murders were reported across the city, closely approaching the total number of homicides that occurred over the recent weekend. According to details provided by CPD:
At approximately 3:40 p.m., two school custodians were discovered shot to death inside Mark Twain Elementary School at 5134 South Lotus Avenue on the Southwest Side. CPD reports that a 48-year-old woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while a 63-year-old man had a single gunshot wound. This incident is suspected to be a murder-suicide. Fortunately, no students were in the building as the school year had not yet commenced.
Later, around 5 p.m., a 48-year-old woman was found dead from stab wounds in a home in Avondale. Officers responding to a call on the 3900 block of West Wellington Avenue discovered the woman unresponsive with a chest puncture wound. She was declared dead at the scene. A person of interest has been apprehended, and a weapon was recovered. Charges are pending.
Approximately 90 minutes after that, two individuals were shot and killed while leaving a business near the 200 block of West Pershing Road. CPD stated that a silver Nissan sedan with three occupants approached the victims at 6:29 p.m. The suspects drew firearms, fired at the victims, and then fled eastward. A 25-year-old man was hit with 12 gunshot wounds, and a 22-year-old woman was struck six times. Both succumbed to their injuries.
The final deadly shooting of the day took place around 9:36 p.m. on the 7300 block of South Indiana Avenue. According to police, two individuals approached a 38-year-old man, opened fire, and fled the scene. Another 38-year-old man was grazed by bullets three times on his right arm and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition was reported as fair.
