Two Dead, 25 Injured in Weekend Shootings and Stabbings in Chicago

Over the weekend, two individuals lost their lives and 25 others sustained injuries in various shootings and stabbings across Chicago, marking the lowest number of victims recorded on the same weekend since 2015, according to data from HeyJackass, a platform that monitors Chicago crime statistics using both open source and official databases.

The victims, ranging from 6 to 71 years old, included 24 males and 3 females.

One significant incident involved a mass shooting where four teenagers were shot by a male assailant during a dispute in the 700 block of South Springfield late on Sunday night. The victims were identified as two boys aged 13 and 14, and two girls aged 15 and 16.

Despite ongoing concerns about violence in the city, the weekend’s relatively low numbers continue a trend of reduced crime during what is typically a peak period for shootings.

Editor’s note: HeyJackass data includes shootings on city expressways, which CPD does not include in its statistics as the Illinois State Police handles those cases. The site defines “weekend” as noon Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for statistical purposes. CPD’s weekend definition is 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Sunday.
