JOE BURROW AND THE CINCINNATI BENGALS…

After a promising start to the season, the Bengals stumbled in a 27-13 loss to the New York Jets. Burrow struggled, throwing three interceptions and failing to find the end zone. The Bengals’ offense, which had been clicking in the first two games, sputtered against the Jets’ defense. Burrow will need to bounce back quickly to keep Cincinnati in the playoff hunt.

THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS…

The defending Super Bowl champions suffered a surprising 34-31 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Tom Brady threw for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a resilient Rams team. The Bucs’ defense struggled to contain Matthew Stafford and the Rams’ high-powered offense, leading to their first loss of the season.

THE MIAMI DOLPHINS…

Miami fell to 0-3 after a 31-28 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite a strong performance from Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins couldn’t hold off a late comeback by the Raiders. Miami’s defense continues to be a weak spot, allowing big plays and struggling to get off the field on third down.

THE NEW YORK GIANTS…

The Giants dropped to 0-3 after a 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Daniel Jones had a solid game, throwing for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a late surge by the Falcons. New York’s defense struggled to contain Matt Ryan and the Falcons’ passing attack, leading to another disappointing loss for the Giants.

The San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins, two teams with high expectations for the 2024 season, have been struggling to meet those expectations due to injuries. The 49ers suffered a shocking 27-24 loss to the Rams, despite leading by 10 points halfway through the fourth quarter. Key players such as Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle were missing from the game, but the offense still performed well. However, special teams miscues and penalties cost them the game, ending their streak of being undefeated when up double digits in the second half under Kyle Shanahan.

On the other hand, the Tua Tagovailoa-less Dolphins faced a 24-3 loss to the Seahawks. Skylar Thompson, who took over as quarterback after an ineffective performance before suffering a rib injury, was unable to lead the team to a competitive performance. The Dolphins have issues beyond just the quarterback position, with problems in the offensive line and wide receiver depth.

The situation with the Dolphins brings to mind a famous anecdote from former Colts offensive coordinator Tom Moore, who once said, “Fellas, if 18 goes down, we’re f—ed. And we don’t practice f—ed.” It seems like the Dolphins may be in a similar predicament.

Despite their struggles, head coaches Sean McVay and Mike Macdonald deserve credit for their efforts in trying to navigate the challenges faced by their respective teams.

In college football action, Tennessee made a statement with a decisive 25-15 road win over Oklahoma, causing a quarterback conundrum for the Sooners. Michigan also delivered a strong performance with a 27-24 victory over USC, showcasing their rugged Big Ten style of play. Colorado showed resilience in a thrilling comeback win over Baylor, led by Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.

As the MLB season comes down to the wire, playoff races are heating up with the Guardians and Brewers already clinching division titles. The Yankees, Dodgers, and Phillies have also secured postseason spots, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the season. The MLB playoff races are heating up, with the Detroit Tigers making a surprising push for the AL wild-card spot. After being 8.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins in August, the Tigers are now tied for the second AL wild-card spot. The current standings show the Orioles leading by 4 games, followed by the Royals and Tigers tied, the Twins just 1 game back, the Mariners 2 games back, and the Rays and Red Sox trailing by 4 games.

In the NL wild-card race, the Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a major setback by blowing an eight-run lead, the largest blown lead in franchise history. This tightens the race with the Padres leading by 3.5 games, followed by the Mets, Diamondbacks, and Braves.

Moving on to the WNBA playoffs, A’ja Wilson was named the unanimous MVP as the playoffs began. She led the Las Vegas Aces to a 78-67 victory over the Seattle Storm, who scored only two points in the fourth quarter. The Connecticut Sun shut down Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark in her playoff debut, winning 93-69 with Marina Mabrey scoring 27 points off the bench. The New York Liberty cruised past the Atlanta Dream 83-69, with Leonie Fiebich scoring 21 points. The Minnesota Lynx outlasted the Phoenix Mercury 102-95, with Napheesa Collier scoring an impressive 38 points.

In Monday’s sports lineup, the Jacksonville Jaguars will face the Buffalo Bills at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN, while the Washington Commanders take on the Cincinnati Bengals at 8:15 p.m. on ABC. Stay tuned for more exciting playoff action and intense matchups as the postseason races continue to unfold.
