Past Students Allege Former Teacher Sexually Assaulted Minor

Former students of a former Commerce City teacher recently charged with sexual assault on a minor alleged that years ago when they were in the sixth grade, their teacher told them explicit details about her sex life, showed them naked pictures, and sexually assaulted one of the children, according to Commerce City Police records.

Prosecutors have charged 44-year-old Michelle McMillan with sexually assaulting an underage student nine years ago when the student was in sixth grade, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a press release on Tuesday.

McMillan surrendered herself into the Adams County Detention Facility on Sunday after detectives with the Commerce City and Brighton police departments’ sexual assault task force issued a warrant for her arrest.

In McMillan’s arrest affidavit, police describe how McMillan’s former students, now in their 20s, from Landmark Academy in Commerce City’s Reunion neighborhood recently came forward confessing their teacher’s alleged inappropriate behavior.

When the former students, who were not identified in the police document, found out McMillan was still teaching at Belleview Christian School in Westminster, they said they felt compelled to share their stories to prevent her from working with children.

Belleview Christian School did not immediately respond when asked how long McMillan had been teaching at the school and what her employment status was. She was not listed as a teacher on the school’s website on Thursday.

Two former students told police that in 2016 when they were in the sixth grade, McMillan was their teacher and favored them. The affidavit said McMillan bought the boys candy and soda and allowed them to talk in class and skip their school work.

McMillan asked the boys to eat lunch in her classroom with her nearly every day for months, the document said, where she would allegedly share sexually explicit stories about her life and show them naked photos of men she claimed to be seeing and sexually explicit photos of herself.

One of the former students said McMillan selected him to dress up as the school mascot for a basketball game and had him change into the costume in her room, the affidavit said. According to the document, McMillan locked her classroom door, closed the blinds and told the boy to take off his clothes.

The former student told police McMillan then sexually assaulted him and forced him to touch her, as well.

McMillan faces a charge of felony sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

Investigators conducted an “exhaustive” probe into the allegation and issued a warrant for McMillan’s arrest last week, police said.
