Chilean actor Néstor Cantillana showcased his talent as a triple threat at the Guadalajara Film Fest (FICG), where he starred in two films and a series titled “Hidden Island,” written by renowned sci-fi author Julio Rojas. Cantillana, who is also gearing up for his second directorial project with the short film “Humedal,” expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he received at the festival.
One of the highlights of Cantillana’s FICG participation was the screening of “Hidden Island,” a Chilean-Mexican co-production that follows a detective investigating the disappearance of a Mexican archaeologist in search of the mythical Friendship Island. Written by Rojas, Juan M. Dartizio, and Felipe Carmona, the series pilot episode captivated audiences with its intriguing storyline and unique visual style.
Rojas, known for his popular podcast “Caso 63,” has collaborated with Cantillana on various projects, including the acclaimed series “La Jauría” and films like “El Refugio” and “The Life of Fish.” Cantillana praised the collaboration between Chilean and Mexican artists on “Hidden Island,” highlighting the creative synergy that enriched the production.
In addition to “Hidden Island,” Cantillana also starred in two Chilean films showcased at FICG: “Cuerpo Celeste” and “Patio de Chacales.” “Cuerpo Celeste,” directed by Nayra Ilic García, explores a 15-year-old girl’s coming-of-age journey in post-Pinochet Chile, while “Patio de Chacales,” helmed by Diego Figueroa, delves into the psychological suspense and horror during Chile’s dictatorship era.
Looking ahead, Cantillana is excited about his upcoming directorial venture, “Humedal,” a dark comedy set in Valdivia. The film follows Aurora, a university professor coping with the loss of her husband and embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Cantillana will not only direct but also play a crucial role in the film, adding a personal touch to the project.
Represented by Constanza Arena’s Agencia La Luz, Cantillana’s international journey as an artist continues to gain momentum. Arena, who supports Cantillana’s multifaceted career, expressed her pride in working with him and helping elevate his work on a global scale. With a diverse range of projects on the horizon, Cantillana’s talent and passion for storytelling shine bright in the world of cinema.
