Republicans had anticipated that Trump might announce one of his typical deals with China, aiming to alleviate the burden on farmers suffering from the detrimental combination of war and tariffs imposed by the president, but no such announcement materialized.
No trade announcements were made, only the usual vague promises from China about potentially becoming more open in the future.
For years, Xi has commented on the decline of the West and the rise of China.
