China’s stimulus measures are just trickling through the economy

China’s economy continues to show signs of improvement following the government’s stimulus measures, but the impact has yet to be felt across all sectors. While growth in areas such as real estate and manufacturing has picked up since the implementation of stimulus policies in late September, companies remain cautious about the future.

During recent earnings calls, companies like Meituan, Alibaba, and Tencent have acknowledged the positive effects of stimulus but emphasize that it will take time for these measures to translate into tangible growth. Meituan’s CFO, Shaohui Chen, mentioned that while there has been some improvement in certain areas like travel bookings, it will take time for the full effects of stimulus to materialize.

Experts believe that China’s focus on technological self-sufficiency and national security will continue to drive economic policies in the coming year. The government aims to achieve a growth rate of around 5% this year and maintain a similar pace in 2025, all while ensuring financial stability.

Recent economic indicators for November show a gradual improvement in growth, with the manufacturing sector expanding and retail sales showing signs of recovery. However, challenges remain, as the labor market continues to struggle and external uncertainties, such as trade tensions with the U.S., pose risks to the economy.

Despite the positive signs, Chinese businesses are calling for more stimulus measures to sustain the current momentum. A recent survey by China Beige Book revealed that while retail spending and home sales have improved, there is still weakness in consumption of services. The report also highlighted an increase in borrowing among businesses, indicating a need for additional support to maintain growth.

Looking ahead, investors are eagerly awaiting details from China’s annual economic planning meeting, scheduled for mid-December. The Ministry of Finance has hinted at further fiscal support in the coming year, suggesting that more stimulus measures could be on the horizon.

In conclusion, while China’s economy is showing signs of recovery, the road to full recovery remains uncertain. The government’s stimulus measures have provided a much-needed boost to certain sectors, but sustained growth will require continued support and strategic planning.
