Renowned British journalist Christiane Amanpour recently shared her apprehensions about traveling to the United States under President Donald Trump’s administration, likening it to visiting North Korea.
Amanpour discussed her journey to the U.S. on her podcast, âThe Ex Files.â
Expressing her fear, Amanpour told her co-host and former husband, Jamie Rubin, about her concerns during her recent trip to the U.S.
Her visit to the U.S. was to deliver a speech at Harvard University, which has faced increased criticism and actions from Trump, such as restrictions on international student enrollment.
Trump’s administration has also intensified its crackdown on immigrants, utilizing ICE agents to apprehend individuals without proper legal procedures.
Furthermore, Trump announced travel bans for citizens of 12 countries and imposed restrictions on seven others.
âAs a foreigner without a green card or American citizenship, I took extreme precautions before my trip to the U.S., treating it like a visit to North Korea. I even used a burner phone with minimal contacts,â Amanpour revealed.
She also consulted with CNN security for guidance on safety measures to undertake.
âI’ve heard reports of British citizens facing extensive questioning at the U.S. border,â Amanpour shared her concerns.
Fortunately, Amanpour had a smooth experience passing through airport security without any issues.
âI was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome from the immigration officer in Boston. It was a huge relief,â she added.
