Christopher Meloni has been announced as the first cast member for Dan Fogelman’s upcoming Hulu series centered around the world of professional football. The untitled series, which was initially revealed in October 2024, is shrouded in secrecy regarding plot details, but it is known to revolve around the NFL with a focus on a multi-generational family dynamic. Meloni will portray the head coach of a team within this football-centric world.
Meloni’s connection to the sport dates back to his high school days, where he played quarterback for St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Virginia. His football prowess was recognized when he and his team were inducted into the school’s hall of fame for their undefeated season in 1978. More recently, he has delved into football-related projects, such as his role in the Kansas City Chiefs scripted series “The Magic Number” and providing voiceovers for NFL advertisements on Peacock.
While Meloni’s football background is impressive, he is best known for his iconic portrayal of Elliot Stabler in the “Law & Order” franchise. Having originated the character on “Law & Order: SVU” and reprised it in “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” Meloni has solidified his place in television history. Additionally, his diverse acting resume includes roles in acclaimed shows like “Oz,” “Happy!,” and “Underground,” as well as memorable film appearances in “Wet Hot American Summer,” “Man of Steel,” and “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.”

This marks Fogelman’s second collaboration with Hulu, following the success of the drama series “Paradise” starring Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden. Additionally, he is an executive producer on the popular Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building,” showcasing his versatility and talent in the streaming landscape.
