CJ ENM, a leading Korean entertainment company, recently made a significant move towards integrating artificial intelligence into its content creation process. At a recent industry event in Seoul, the company unveiled its AI content strategy alongside the premiere of its first fully AI-generated animation series, “Cat Biggie.”
During the event, CJ ENM executives discussed their plans to revolutionize content creation through proprietary AI technology. They emphasized the application of AI across the entire content value chain, from planning and production to distribution and marketing. This comprehensive approach allows the company to expand AI content production across various genres and formats, ultimately securing next-generation intellectual property.
One of the key AI systems showcased by CJ ENM is Cinematic AI, designed for narrative content like drama and film. This system seamlessly integrates image, video, sound, and voice to create a cohesive output. Additionally, the company’s AI Script system functions as an AI agent for IP discovery, analyzing consumer demand and market trends to identify promising properties and suggest suitable genres and media formats.
The highlight of the event was the premiere of “Cat Biggie,” CJ ENM’s first fully AI-produced animation series. The non-verbal short-form series follows a cat who unexpectedly becomes a father to a baby chick. Despite being produced by a team of just six specialists over five months, the series consists of 30 two-minute episodes, showcasing the efficiency and potential of AI in content creation.
Following the success of “Cat Biggie,” CJ ENM plans to expand into AI film and AI drama productions within the year. The company aims to position itself as a global AI studio through team expansion and creator development programs.
However, the integration of AI in the entertainment industry also raises regulatory challenges. Sang-Hyeok Im, a partner at SHIN & KIM LLC, emphasized the need for clear industry guidelines, legal frameworks for copyright and data protection, and dedicated government departments to support the field.
CJ ENM’s entertainment division has been instrumental in the global expansion of Korean culture, producing acclaimed content such as “Queen of Tears,” “I Can See Your Voice,” and Tony Award-winning musicals like “Kinky Boots.” With three major studios and the Korean streaming platform TVING under its umbrella, CJ ENM continues to be a major player in the entertainment industry.
