Blurring the boundaries between architecture, social space, and sculpture, Rome welcomes a new bar that is redefining the concept of traditional galleries. Known as Bar Far, this innovative establishment is located within Villa Lontana and is the brainchild of artists Clementine Keith-Roach and Christopher Page.
The name Bar Far is a clever play on the name of Villa Lontana, translating to “faraway villa.” Drawing inspiration from iconic art bars like Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich and Caffè Greco in Rome, Bar Far is a visual spectacle that pays homage to the rich history of these cultural hubs. This project is a continuation of Keith-Roach and Page’s previous collaborations, including the acclaimed art bar installation Bar Moi.
At Bar Far, visitors are welcomed by a neon sign on the facade and a mesmerizing interior filled with sculptural elements. Tables supported by legs shaped like hands, sconces in the form of hands holding candles, and architectural arches adorned with vibrant paintings create a surreal and immersive experience.
Keith-Roach’s signature sculptural style, characterized by plaster-cast figurative forms, takes center stage at Bar Far. Her unique creations, which often feature anatomical elements intertwined with vessels, are transformed into functional pieces like tables, benches, and frames. These sculptures seamlessly blend with the architecture, creating a seamless integration of art and space.
Page’s contribution to Bar Far comes in the form of atmospheric paintings that add a mystical quality to the environment. His trompe l’œil works, which often resemble windows or mirrors, create a sense of depth and mystery within the space. The combination of Keith-Roach’s sculptural pieces and Page’s paintings results in an environment that blurs the line between past and future, reality and illusion.
Bar Far is a must-visit destination for art and design enthusiasts in Rome, offering a unique and immersive experience that transcends traditional boundaries. The exhibition will be on display until March 14, inviting visitors to explore the intersection of art, architecture, and social space in a truly innovative setting.
