During a late-night altercation in central Dunedin, a young woman was viciously attacked by a teenage girl, resulting in clumps of hair being ripped from her scalp and multiple blows to her head. The incident occurred at the intersection of George St and Moray Pl at 1am on Sunday, according to Sergeant Matt Lee of Dunedin.

Surprisingly, the 20-year-old victim and the 18-year-old assailant were strangers to each other. The violent assault began when the teenager started punching the woman in the head and aggressively pulling out her hair. The victim’s friend tried to intervene and stop the attack, but the assailant’s 19-year-old friend prevented her and even slapped her across the face.

Law enforcement arrived on the scene promptly and apprehended the teenager and her friend. The situation escalated further when the 18-year-old resisted arrest by kicking and pinching the officer. As a result, she was charged with assault with intent to injure, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. She was subsequently released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.

On the other hand, the 19-year-old friend of the assailant was let off with a formal warning by the police, as confirmed by Sgt Lee.
