CM Punk makes shocking claim about potential heel turn

CM Punk, a celebrated WWE Superstar, has remained a fan favorite since his return to the Stamford-based promotion in November 2023, where he has played the role of a babyface.

Recently, CM Punk appeared on Complex’s GOAT Talk with his wife, AJ Lee. The duo discussed various best and worst categories in wrestling, including heels, finishing moves, WrestleMania rivalries, and costumes.

Discussing wrestling heels, CM Punk expressed that turning heel would paradoxically enhance his babyface status, as fans would still support him. He cited John Cena’s experience with turning heel, which did not go as planned.

“What’s so strange about that is everybody loves me now. You’ll be such a great villain that people wind up loving you. Fans at C2E2 came through the line, ‘You gotta turn heel. We need you to be a heel.’ The thing is, if I turn heel, it would make me an even more enormous babyface. They would still cheer. We watched it in real time backfire on John Cena. John wanted to try something new, he was retiring, he thought it could be fun. I thought it was fun, but people just wanted the greatest hits,” Punk said. [H/T: Fightful]

CM Punk wants to wrestle a popular WWE female star

On the All The Smoke podcast, CM Punk shared the names of stars he would like to face in the ring.

Punk expressed interest in wrestling Bayley, praising her as an exceptional talent. He also mentioned the scarcity of intergender matches in WWE, recounting the enjoyment of putting Becky Lynch in a sharpshooter at Wrestlepalooza 2025.

“Bayley. I gotta mention Bayley. Maybe I do want to get in the ring with her. Maybe I want to beat her a**, I don’t know. She is such a great wrestler. She is so f*cking good. It’s hard not to mention her. We don’t do intergender stuff, barely ever. I did get to put Becky in a sharpshooter, and that was fun,” Punk said.

CM Punk and Bayley maintain a close friendship outside the ring. Whether they will ever compete against each other remains to be seen.
