Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin predicts that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, as heads of President-elect Donald Trump’s planned Department of Government Efficiency, will face numerous bureaucratic challenges that will likely drive them “crazy.”
Trump announced the creation of the new entity, nicknamed DOGE, on social media, stating that it will pave the way for his Administration to streamline government bureaucracy, reduce regulations, cut unnecessary expenses, and reorganize federal agencies.
Comparing the initiative to the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bomb during World War II, Trump did not provide specific details on its establishment, leaving Toobin to emphasize the significant hurdles involved in creating a new federal agency.
Toobin highlighted the Administrative Procedures Act, a crucial law governing the development of federal agencies, which mandates a complex process to be followed in order to make any changes, let alone restructure long-standing departments like the Department of Education.
While Musk’s endorsement and financial support of Trump’s campaign have led to his leadership role in the new department, Ramaswamy, who initially challenged Trump in the presidential race, has also endorsed the president-elect. The announcement of the department has reportedly boosted the price of Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency promoted by Musk on his social media platform.
Despite conservative praise for Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy for their promises to eliminate government waste, critics are wary of billionaire CEOs overseeing such a critical effort. Some view their involvement as a means to benefit themselves and avoid scrutiny, rather than serving the public interest.
