Jane Fonda on Trump: ‘We are in a Terrifying Era’
Actress Jane Fonda expressed her growing concerns about the implications of a potential second Trump administration on Wednesday, cautioning that we are entering “a terrifying era.”
“This moment is unlike anything we have confronted before. Historical precedents such as the autocratic attempts in the ’20s and ’30s, the scourge of McCarthyism, and the era of Jim Crow—while similarly oppressive—present a different landscape altogether. We must acknowledge the gravity of our situation, and solidarity is our most potent weapon,” Fonda articulated during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “Inside Politics.”
Fonda went on to discuss her efforts to revitalize the spirit of the Committee for the First Amendment, a 1950s initiative that included her father and sought to protect free speech within the entertainment industry. She emphasized that this revitalization is meant to foster cross-sector collaboration to combat the broader societal impacts of current political climates.
Her initiative has already garnered the support of over 600 notable figures in the entertainment industry, marking its formal relaunch just this Wednesday.
