Scott Jennings Raises Alarm on New York City’s Future
In a recent segment on CNN, Scott Jennings emerged as one of the few voices of caution, warning viewers about the potential implications of electing the radical socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in New York City.
Mamdani’s proposals have sparked controversy, particularly his plan to fund his ambitious vision for the city through increased property taxes targeting “wealthier and predominantly white neighborhoods.” This approach raises questions about the equity and sustainability of such financial strategies.
Additionally, Mamdani’s ongoing campaign to defund the New York Police Department has attracted significant criticism. He argues that this initiative is necessary to combat systemic issues he perceives as controlling the lives of marginalized communities, including Black and Latino residents, as well as economically disadvantaged individuals.
In his rhetoric, Mamdani has also linked the defunding of police to broader social movements, asserting that it is a crucial step towards “queer liberation.” He contends that law enforcement is complicit in perpetuating violence against minorities, framing his proposals as a form of societal progress.

During the discussion, CNN’s Omar Jimenez attempted to mitigate concerns surrounding Mamdani’s proposals. However, Jennings remained steadfast in his critique.
Jennings: “Nobody’s going to want to walk through Manhattan if he follows through with defunding the NYPD, Maria. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it after he dismantles the police force.”
Jimenez: “Mamdani has previously pushed for defunding the NYPD in 2020, but he claims his current objective is reform, not outright defunding.”
Jennings: “You’re falling into the same pattern again. It’s the typical Harris playbook.”
Jimenez: “Just to clarify, he stated he doesn’t want to target white individuals specifically, but higher-income neighborhoods that are predominantly white.”
Jennings: “He literally articulated that in his written statement, Omar. Are you just going to let him off the hook for that?”
Jimenez: “I’m not disputing what he said, but he did clarify that it wasn’t based on race, specifically. That is what I’m trying to convey, Scott.”
