It’s hardly a surprise that conservatives find little to cheer about in the ongoing clash between President Donald Trump and former head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk.
When the wealthiest individual on the planet and the leader of the free world—once a formidable duo under the Republican label—start bickering, it’s the GOP that pays the price.
This dynamic has multiple implications, but here’s one that stands out: it has provided the left with a golden opportunity to cultivate division.
While conservatives scramble to mend the rift, the left is enthusiastically seizing the moment, reveling in what might be their first significant political victory since the 2020 election.
Take, for instance, Van Jones, a former advisor to President Barack Obama and now a CNN commentator. As tensions escalate between Musk and Trump, leftists are eagerly capitalizing on the opening created by this feud, as evidenced by the rather outlandish rhetoric coming from Jones.
(It’s worth noting that the video begins with Jones and CNN’s Anderson Cooper sharing a laugh, which only adds to the spectacle.)
Van Jones suggests that Trump should prosecute DOGE employees: If Donald Trump is smart, the first thing he’s going to do is fire, investigate and prosecute all of Elon’s people who are all throughout government with their laptops downloading data right now pic.twitter.com/wQSq3zu9Uw

“Those DOGE employees, the people that [fellow former Obama advisor David] Axelrod was just talking about, are very dangerous,” Jones asserted. “If Donald Trump is smart, the first thing he’s going to do is fire, investigate, and prosecute all of Elon’s people, who are all throughout government with their laptops, downloading data right now.”
This suggestion is so glaringly transparent that it borders on offensive.
Democrats’ disdain for anything related to DOGE is well-documented; they seem to have an aversion to accountability, crumbling under the slightest pressure. Jones’s attempt to appeal to Trump’s ego—“If Donald Trump is smart…”—makes it painfully clear that Democrats are merely exploiting the widening chasm between Trump and Musk to advance their own agenda.
To be fair, this is all par for the course in politics. While it may reek of desperation and inauthenticity, there is nothing preventing the left from capitalizing on a rare misstep at the upper echelons of the GOP.
The irony is, this strategy might actually pan out. With emotions running high, Trump may dismiss the mere mention of “Van Jones,” yet he is likely open to hearing critiques of Musk at this moment.
(And let’s not underestimate the resourcefulness of Democrats eager to exploit this opportunity.)
It’s important to clarify that there’s nothing inherently illegal about DOGE employees fulfilling their duties. Contrary to the Democratic narrative, reducing waste in government is beneficial. We should all want governmental operations to be as efficient and effective as possible.
One can only hope that Trump refrains from targeting these employees, allowing them to continue their work in reducing government excess.
After all, as the saying goes: Give a (Democ)rat a crumb …
