Colin Jost and Michael Che’s Christmas Tradition on SNL
Every year on “Saturday Night Live,” Colin Jost and Michael Che have a Christmas tradition of writing outrageously offensive jokes for each other to tell on Weekend Update. This year, however, Che decided to play a prank on Jost by pretending they weren’t doing the joke swap, but secretly preparing his own set. As a result, Jost was left to deliver all the controversial punchlines, much to Che and the audience’s amusement.
Che didn’t hold back in poking fun at Jost once again, reminiscent of the time he made Jost deliver sharp jokes about his wife, Scarlett Johansson, who was in the backstage watching.
One of Jost’s lines read, “Critics are saying that a new series of coins from the U.S. Mint that celebrate great moments in the country’s history are ignoring civil rights. But what about the coin that commemorates where Black people actually come from — ships?” Che couldn’t contain his laughter as Jost reluctantly delivered the joke to the audience.
Continuing with the trend, Jost read, “The archdiocese of New York is establishing a fund for victims of church sexual abuse. But what about me? I get nothing for staying silent and taking it like a champ?” The audience’s reaction was a mix of gasps and laughter, with Che suggesting that Jost should have prepared some jokes for him as well.
Another joke from Jost went, “New research indicates that millions of women leave the workforce due to menopause. Looks like I only have a few years left on my gravy train,” accompanied by a photo of Scarlett Johansson on the screen. Jost continued, “My girl is already saying, ‘Colin, I’m warm. Colin, I’m sweating.’ You’re having a hot flash, honey.” The punchline was met with a mix of reactions from the audience.
As Jost wrapped up his segment, he quipped, “But don’t worry about me, I have a backup. They don’t call Wednesday hump day for nothing,” with a photo of Jenna Ortega’s Netflix character Wednesday Addams appearing on screen.
