An immigration judge will soon decide on the temporary release of immigrant rights activist Jeanette Vizguerra

During a bail hearing on Friday, authorities attempted to block media access to the courtroom where attorneys representing Vizguerra argued for her release.

Vizguerra, a well-known activist born in Mexico, has been detained since March, with her lawyers claiming she was targeted by ICE due to her advocacy work.

Government lawyers argued that Vizguerra should remain detained indefinitely, citing her criminal record and alleged lack of respect for authority.

The complexity of the case led Judge Brea Burgie to delay her decision on whether to grant bail to Vizguerra.

Earlier in the day, reporters and supporters were initially denied entry to the courtroom by personnel at the privately-run Aurora detention center.

After intervention from Vizguerra’s legal team, some reporters and supporters were eventually allowed inside the courtroom.

ICE officials reportedly instructed the detention center to limit access to only lawyers, family, and witnesses due to the attention the case was receiving.

Despite the challenges, Vizguerra remained hopeful as she waved to her family and supporters before the hearing.

The judge’s decision on Vizguerra’s bail is eagerly awaited as her immigration case continues.
