A 28-year-old man from Colorado has been charged with attempting to firebomb a U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court.

The suspect, Joseph Neumeyer, holds dual citizenship in the United States and Germany. He was arrested in Israel and extradited to the United States to face charges of attempting to destroy a U.S. embassy office in Tel Aviv using fire or explosives.

Neumeyer had been in Israel since April and on May 19, he posted on social media about his intention to burn down the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv.

On the same day, Neumeyer allegedly spat on a security guard outside the embassy and verbally abused him. The guard tried to detain Neumeyer by grabbing his backpack, but Neumeyer managed to escape and flee the scene. However, when the guard opened the backpack, he discovered three Molotov cocktails filled with ethanol.

Israeli police tracked Neumeyer to a hotel near the embassy and apprehended him. During questioning, Neumeyer confessed to spitting on the guard and admitted to carrying three Molotov cocktails made with vodka.

Neumeyer was transported back to the United States on Sunday to face legal proceedings.

This story is still developing and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
