The Colorado Department of Transportation is set to begin work on a project to repair a series of aging bridges over railroad tracks in metro Denver. The first bridge scheduled for repairs is the Buckley Road Bridge over Interstate 76 in Adams County.
Along with the Buckley Road Bridge, crews will also be working on the Interstate 25 exit to Interstate 70, the Interstate 225 over Smith Road, and the north abutment under the Buckley Road Bridge. The project will involve replacing expansion devices and repairing joints, deck, and drainage systems, and is expected to be completed by the end of December. Native Sun has been appointed as the contractor for the project.
During the repair work on the Buckley Road Bridge, traffic will be shifted to one lane in each direction on the bridge over I-70 from Monday through late September. Initially, traffic will be shifted to the east side of the bridge before being redirected to the west side.
Drivers should be aware that closures on the westbound I-76 will be in effect until mid-August for drainage work. Additionally, shoulder closures on westbound I-76 under the bridge will be in place from Monday through mid-August for construction purposes.
It is advised that drivers expect slight delays during this period, as travel lanes will be narrower and crews with heavy equipment will be operating in the area. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors. For real-time updates on road conditions and closures, drivers can visit COtrip.org.
