After completing two seasons at the University of Colorado, DJ McKinney has decided to move on.
It was announced on Thursday that the Buffaloes’ starting cornerback will be entering the transfer portal when it opens on Friday. Joining him are defensive end Nikhil Webb Walker and offensive lineman Walker Andersen, who have also expressed their intentions to enter the portal.
McKinney, who started for two years at CU, played in all 13 games in 2024 and the first nine games of the current season before sitting out the last three games. During his time at CU, McKinney accumulated 97 tackles, 14 pass breakups, four interceptions, four tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery.
Prior to joining CU, McKinney spent two seasons at Oklahoma State, redshirting in 2022 and playing 14 games as a reserve for the Cowboys in 2023. He will have one season of eligibility left.
Webb Walker, who began his collegiate career at New Mexico State before transferring to CU for two years, primarily played on special teams for the first five games of 2024. Unfortunately, he missed the last eight games due to a lymphoma diagnosis. This season, he played in six games and recorded three tackles. Webb Walker will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Andersen, a 6-foot-8, 340-pound redshirt freshman during the past season, did not see any game action for the Buffs. He transferred to CU last winter after redshirting at UCLA. Andersen has three years of eligibility left.
As the transfer portal prepares to open on Friday, a total of 26 scholarship players from CU have already announced their intentions to transfer. Not included in this list are safety Terrance Love and cornerback Kyle Carpenter, who both departed from the team during the season.
