Comedian Roy Wood Jr. Takes a Shot at Don Lemon During CNN New Year’s Eve Show
During CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve show in Times Square with hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, comedian Roy Wood Jr. made a bold statement by refusing to take a shot offered by Cohen.
While Cohen enthusiastically offered drinks to his guests, Wood declined to participate in CNN’s once-banned celebration.
When Cohen asked if anyone wanted a shot, Wood jokingly referenced Don Lemon’s firing by saying, “No I don’t. The last Black man to drink on this network got fired.”
Wood then opted for water, stating that he needed “stability” for the night.
Despite the awkward moment, Wood’s co-stars Michael Ian Black and Amber Ruffin accepted the offer as Wood continued to smirk at his joke.
Wood’s jab at Lemon comes after the former CNN host was fired in 2023. This incident is not the first time Wood has poked fun at Lemon, as he previously made a joke about Lemon’s reporting accuracy at the 2023 White House Correspondent’s Dinner.
Despite their history, Lemon and Wood later reconciled on “The Don Lemon Show.”
Lemon’s departure from CNN was unexpected, with the network failing to inform him directly of his termination after 17 years of service.
Now hosting his own show, “The Don Lemon Show,” Lemon has continued to make headlines with his controversial remarks, including a recent expletive-laden rant over H1-B visas for specialty workers.
Despite the ups and downs, Lemon remains a prominent figure in the media landscape, known for his bold opinions and outspoken nature.
